A veneer is a thin shell — usually porcelain, sometimes composite resin — bonded to the front surface of a tooth to correct its shape, size, or color. Porcelain veneers resist staining better and last longer, typically ten to fifteen years, while composite veneers cost less and can be completed in a single visit.
A thin layer of enamel is typically prepped off before bonding, which is why the process is considered permanent rather than reversible. A same-visit digital mock-up shows you the expected shape and shade before the permanent veneers are fabricated in a lab.
Getting veneers doesn't replace the need for normal hygiene — the tooth underneath still needs the same care as any other. Grinding at night is one of the more common reasons veneers chip early, so a nightguard is often recommended alongside the procedure.
A digital mock-up shows your expected new smile before any enamel is prepped or veneers ordered.
Both material options are available, with your provider explaining the tradeoffs for your specific case.
Some cases qualify for ultra-thin veneers requiring little to no enamel removal.
Veneers are shade-matched to your natural teeth or your desired brighter target shade.
